From Blog to Book

Began as long ago as late 2014, The Sane Halloween Observer gave an unofficial farewell (January 14, 2023) in a recent blog entry What Next? announcing a newer print venture with The Halloween Retrospect archive library. This was a move on the author’s part to be more involved with developing a private reference library, as a means to participate in the world of amateur archives better informed by a recent degree in Library and Information Science.

While the blog began mostly as a place to share unusual finds (during a seemingly more accessible second-hand market), there was at least one persistent theme, perhaps the first of its kind — to peer skeptically into the traditional narrative (circa 1990’s) of the vintage holiday market-eers. This inevitably created some crunchy content (during an interesting decade of digital changes) but the data and the discoveries became the trick-or-treat playground of an independent author looking forward to continuing such traditions with new publications.

While The Halloween Retrospect volumes will move forward separately from the blog, the new publication has utilized some of that previous content as a springboard for the initial volume or so. That said, the blog still contains information that did not (or will not, given current plans) carry over to the new project, and so for now the blog space is the best place to house older yet relevant content.
